“Dana, that was called the Mother of the Gods, was beyond them all.”
Now this has puzzled me a bit and so today in my meditation time I concentrated on Dana to see what came to me.
If we accept Dana as the All Mother which for me is also the Earth Mother then the little we know of her begins to make sense.
Danu/Dana is not like the other Gods and Goddesses as she is the earth she is a power which cannot be negotiated with. We have but one choice we can honour her and choose to live in harmony with her.
She treats everyone as equals. It is her power which produces life. You plant and it grows as she controls the life force.
So why do we make offerings to her. If she just keeps doing what she is doing. Well to live in harmony is to draw close to her. It is through that offering of gifts that she allows us to see her deeper energies at work and we begin to see life as she sees it. We see the interconnection. We see our place as it really is. To long have we not listened. To long have we thought we are greater than the earth on which we live and too long have we put profit ahead of love.
However we choose to interact with Danu will show in our lives. Philip Carr-Gomm writes in his book the Druid Animal Oracle ....
“Druidry is a call from the future...not the past. It calls us to cease the madness of our alienation and destruction, and ally ourselves once more with all our relations – the stones and the trees, the birds, and insects, the fish and the animals. Maybe then we can begin living again – not just surviving to suffer the consequences of our delusion that we are masters of all nature.”
This day go outside and offer something to Danu and listen to her. Make this a daily thing to do and try once again to see your place in this beautiful world. Above all start living.
